About Palma
Self-Portrait, 2022, Mixed Media
Palma Linnea (b.1982 in Stockholm) is a Swedish abstract painter based in Salt Lake City and Taipei. When she’s not in her studio, she spends most of her time on the road looking for peculiar plants, rousing patterns, or historic artworks to inspire her paintings. Raised across different cultures, she is interested in the intimate relationships we develop with the beautiful objects we choose to carry with us throughout life and across borders -a fabric, a postcard, a painting- things that beckon us in quiet moments and provide a sacred space for our memories and longings. Palma believes that a painting's most valuable gifts to us are connection and time. She takes time to hear her inspirations “sing” ( in the words of Rilke), and to allow each painting to emerge at its own pace, trusting that anyone living with her work senses this element of time, and is tempted to slow down and connect. She considers living with an original painting an opportunity for a dynamic relationship that has the power to gently transform owner, painting and the space they share, creating unique and irreplicable beauty. Further inspirations include traditional Middle and East Asian window and tile patterns, medieval painting and sculpture, the poetry of Tomas Tranströmer, and the various stages of night.
